Rave Report x Idle Form collab
I designed & painted my biggest mural ever with Idle Form in Whitechapel, Greatorex st East London. Here’s how the creative process went down!
This summer I was at my girl Gabi Vallim’s birthday party where I met Reinhard Agyekum. He’s an artist and the co-founder of club night and creative platform Idle Form with DJ and producer Seborah Kamara.
As well as a club night, Idle Form is a platform that gives transparency into how London artists work, collaborate, and draw influences from the city. Their next event is this Friday 29th Sep at Looking Glass Cocktail Club Shoreditch (below).
Idle Form co-founder Reinhard (paintings below) is an artist who’s held many exhibitions in the city. His works are an exploration of abstract colour and playfulness, and when we saw each other’s art, it was clear we were in creative alignment. So he and Idle Form commissioned me to do a graffiti collab on the rooftop of their art studio in Whitechapel!
First I sketched out different variations of my design.
I’d never planned out a graff piece properly like this as a collab, which inspired me to try new things like create a moodboard for the colourway.
Reinhard prepared the background in advance with paint emulsion and an extendable roller
I did a mockup on Canva, which made it a lot easier to paint the design at scale
Then it was paint day! Idle Form commissioned his friend and filmmaker, Elton Betsch to capture everything on camera.
As I was painting from a small ledge close to the wall, it was helpful to have Reinhard and Elton standing at a distance, using the mockup to help me paint the outline.
Then we all painted the background together
I did the outline, shading, and smiley faces (my fav part to paint)
One of my besties Vanessa (Founder of Wooli by Ness, high crochet fashion), came along too.
She, Reinhard and Eton all tried out their own tags for the first time - they loved it. Vanessa and I are planning our next graff/crochet collab!
Then it got late so after celebrating we went home to rest
The next day we did the final touches and filmed a video interview (coming soon)
Find our piece by looking to the rooftops from outside Tesco’s next to the East London Mosque in Whitechapel!
